The 1510 is a Broadcom chipset and the 5300 is an Intel chipset. I personally have a major preference for Intel over Broadcom, but for the most part there will be little difference between the two.

    AFAIK,

1510 uses 2 wires antennas with 2x2 (Transfer x Receive) radio streams, resulting max speed of 300 Mbps (or 270 Mbps incase of different chipsets with the connected wireless access point/router).

5300 uses 3 wires antennas with 3x3 radio streams, resulting max speed of 450 Mbps (or 405 Mbps incase of different chipsets with the connected wireless access point/router ).

I have the Dell studio xps 13 and by default I have the 1510 card. I went and brought the intel 5100. I had the same problem with connection issues with both which made me think it's the router. My router is the wrt 150N. However as far as a difference was concerned with the cards I did notice believe it or not the intel card heating up the laptop much more than the Dell card. (the right palm rest) so I went back to the Dell. I put on DD-WRT firmware on my router and things seem to be better.

Very strange when I set my router on 40MHZ which does raise the speed to 270 mps my connection slows down in general and when I do the speakeasy bandwith test it really shows. So I keep mine on 20mhz put it on channel 10 and i'm good

I'm not a wireless expert but I do notice the singnal at times going to 104mps, 78 mps and 130 mps. Is it normal for these things to fluxuate. I keep reading on the web yes but I'd like to konw if there is anyway I can keep it at 130 mps contantly.
