I bought a linksys router and i was having sum trouble getting the notebook to work with it and i ended up fixing it but i used the linksys setup a few times and when i check the preferrerd wireless connections thing some of the other ssid names show up. i was wondering if you could tell me how you get rid of those or atleast secure them so someone can't access em.

    thanks alot

Well, only one of them is valid, one router can't have more than one SSID. Where are you seeing them show up that you don't want them to?

Are you refering to your SSID being listed more than once in the wireless networks tab under the network properties? They only way that I know that more than one of your names would show up is if you changed it each time you ran the setup. More than likely they are someone elses network in your area. Not many change their SSID from the default, which I suggest doing, so if you left yours to default then more than one shouldn't be listed. But if they are your old ones that XP detected you can just delete them and leave your current one on automatic. If they are another network then they may simply reappear but you will connect to your network since it's first and automatic.

When I ran the set-up i did create a different ssid name each time, but I think ur right Anubis. I think the reason i thought I saw more than one was because I saw the default linksys name and i know I used that the first time, but I guess it's someone elses. To delete them do i just go to wireless connection properties?

    thanks

Yep, just go to the wireless networks tab there, select the ones that are duplicates in the prefered networks box and hit remove. Any that are not your duplicate but other networks may come back later but it's nothing to worry about. I have a couple other networks in my area here that show when I go into the choose wireless networks page but they don't show in my prefered networks, as long as you don't connect to them (which is illegal) they shouldn't show. But as long as you can connect automatically to yours XP wont bother with the others. :)
