I just got my new DSL line and every so often my wireless connection drops. I think I've narrowed it down to something to do with Zone Alarm 6.5. When I have ZA on, the connection will sometimes completely drop (BT, Messenger, and the wireless connection all turn off). My download speeds seem to be a little slower too. I've tested the downloads with ZA on and off within a few minutes to see if it is my side or other servers.

Why don't I just turn ZA off? Well, I would like to have a software firewall (in addition to my hardware one) so I don't want to just get rid of ZA (Which pretty much cures everything so far I think). So is there a way to configure ZA to get maximum dl speeds and no connection drops?

BTW: I have limited the amount of incoming connections b/c my dsl line has a 200 connection limit. I have another computer that shares these connections directly thru the router (not wireless) and it gets great dl speeds with no connection drop. I guess if the maximum connection lim is reached then the dsl resets itself- but this is not the problem as I am regulating the connections (100 for wireless and 75 for the not wireless).

Anyone have any ideas? I don't really want to buy any software either. THanks
    Dan

If you have a hardware firewall, that combined with windows firewall should do the trick, as long as you're up to date. ZA has very, very few advanced options as far as specific settings... it can't specify ports, for example. If you don't feel comfortable with just windows firewalla nd the hardware one, i'd look into alternatives for zonealarm
