Supposing the expenses are the same, for using at home only, is there advantage of using one over the other, between choosing DSL and Wireless?

What wireless do you mean- UMTS/3G or sth? You don't mean WiFi, right?
If you intend to use it at home only DSL connection is better- also keep in mind that you can choose a wireless router/modem thus effectively having the same convenience as with UMTS but better speeds.
DSL is less weather dependent and more consistent in terms of speed, it should be also cheaper- so it's better for home only use.

Why, I'm very dumb, I thought WiFi = Wireless :p What's the difference? I'm talking about Verizon wireless--is that WiFi?

I'm trying to choose between Verizon DSL and Verizon wireless, but without regard to price here.

Verizon Wireless seems to be 3G network- that would be like internert access via a very fast mobile phone- meaning you can use it anywhere in range of these stations (in big cities it's basically everywhere)
WiFi is just a residential thing- covers more or less your apartment. As I said you can buy a WiFi capable router or modem and connect it to your cable network regardless of its type.
Why DSL is better (for home use)- to make it simple both have fixed capacity however DSL has also fixed number of customers in an area whereas 3G has fixed capacity for a station but number of clients that currently use this station changes and so does the speed (full speed gets divided by number of customers).
You cannot be sure of how good is 3G coverage in your apartment (thick walls or other obstacles) and 3G can be affected by bad weather.

downloads, thank you so much for the explanations! When I inquired about wireless service with Verizon, they did ask me whether I needed mobile wireless or just for my home. So perhaps what they call "mobile wireless" is what you mean by 3G (perhaps Verizon has both)?

Thanks also for explaining why DSL may be preferable at home.

Should make little to no difference Mobile/Vs home Wireless Internet. Other than one may charge roaming. If you leave your given area.

If you're using it at home only, then DSL, no question.

Mobile Broadband usually has a 5GB cap per month for data usage, not to mention it's about twice as expensive as DSL.

It's also quite a lot slower in reality than advertised speed.

5gb per month at home would kill me.

It's not horrible, but it's def not as good as a wired broadband solution.

As mentioned, that will depend on how crowded the tower is.
    Speeds can vary widely.

It's like crowding 20 people on home DSL, fine for one or two people, but put 18 on there and see how things run.

I have the wireless modem in an evdo router at home. When I moved to dump water Florida the only services available were dial up or wireless. There was no broadband available in my area. The five gig cap was not in my contract and even though I pay month to month now, I have never worried about the 20 to 25 gig we use. Where there is no 3g coverage it is still around 4 to 5 times faster than dial up. I currently live in California and am in a 3g area. I just recently purchased the evdo router due to the wireless software not playing well with my new laptop. I am going to purchase a wilson trucker antenna to increase signal stability during bad weather and heavy usage times.
