i have some trouble with my wireless connection. sometimes my internet doesn't work the first time i connect and when i troubleshoot it using the msn messenger it says that the DNS is unable to resolve IP addresses. how can i fix this? i usually repair the problem using the msn messenger but at my friend's house this doesn't seem to work.

we both have linksys, i don't know what version his is, but mine is v.5.

Make sure that you are connecting to your wireless network and not someone elses. Also check to make sure that the network 'key' is correct (If you are using encyption). You will not be able to connect to the internet if your key is invalid.

it's doubtful the problem is a DNS issue. the problem is how you are connecting to the network and out onto the internet. i'm confused by your statement that you used msn messenger to fix something? can you elaborate on that?

whenever i try to connect using my wireless connection in my laptop, i first run msn messenger and open firefox. upon doing this, it shows that i can't connect online, even if my notebook says that i am connected. when my msn messenger fails to sign in, a troubleshoot option appears and when i click on it, it scans for the trouble and it always says that there is a problem with the DNS. when i click the option to repair it (also found on msn), it usually resolves the problem and i can use all my messengers and internet browsers.

i just didn't want to keep doing this everytime i use my notebook, so i was wondering if there was a way i could resolve it permanently.

There is a way to do it in command line. You would need to flush the DNS

    Assuming you're on Windows XP

Go to start > run and type 'cmd' without quotes.

    Then type ipconfig /flushdns

That should fix it. Otherwise you need to assign Static DNS. Normally you will get'em from your ISP. Try the above step first , if it still fails , then we need to assign a Static DNS Server.
