My friend has Bell for Internet and she keeps getting disconnected every now and then, each time being provided with a DNS error message when she tries to diagnose it with Network Diagnostics. Her laptop is connected via Ethernet directly to the high-speed modem. What could be the problem? She has already tried
    Code:
    ipconfig -renew
    Any help?

What has Bell said about the random disconnects? Has she been instructed to reset the modem?

Its the internet thats the issue not DNS. The modem seems to be dropping out. The issue could be a few things.

Call your internet company first and run the common diagnostics.

Write down the DNS address handed out. Then set the DNS address as static in TCP/IP properties. See if that helps, if it doesn't it's either a ISP / network based problem. The latter includes the modem.

How long has your friend had that particular modem? The hardware may have started to fail, in which case it will have to be replaced.

When did the problem start? Has it always been like this?
When the problem is there, how does it resolve upto now?

If a restart of the laptop always works, i'd say the cause of the problem is software based. If a restart of the modem always works, i'd look for a problem there.

Sporadic problems are usually quite hard to diagnose. Key is to narrow it down to either software / hardware.
