rather than buying a $50 wireless card ( as recommended here to get 300Mbps) on top of the $130 I spent for the DIR-655 router, I'm thinking I may return it and get the DGL-4500 instead. There's the DIR-855 coming, but I want this done before 2008.

Is the D-Link DGL-4500 router basically the same thing as the DIR-655? Main differences being the 5GHz band and game priority. Any other difference worth noting?

It looks like a really nice router. The dual band is nice. I'm assuming you have the intel...... from your reference. Thats good. Not even the d-link adapters are dual band, mainly just 2.4. You should :) :) get around 300mbps, but **** happens......

So RIGHT NOW, yea, I'd say it's a good fit. This or the Airport Extreme- I like the AE because it has the USB port for adding a network printer/hardrive etc.-It has bugs, but they're working on it.

I just got the DGL-4500 today and I have connected at 300 Mbps without the Dlink adapters, my Hp notebook has the Intel 4965AGN wifi card, I set the router for 5Ghz and it runs fine, its a great router, I had to get it from CC in Buffalo as after a phone call to Dlink Canada it took them about 5 minutes to acknowledge this router actually exists, then they said it wont be available till spring, I also had the dir-655 and its a great router but I could only connect at 130 Mbps with the Intel wifi card.

Right now the range in 5Ghz is not bad in my house, the router is downstairs at one side of the house and Im usually upstairs at the other side of the house (about 40ft) and I get 2-3 bars but I have to properly place the router and will do this weekend, its sitting almost behind a concrete wall along with other obstructions including electronic, Im going to play with it all weekend and get in more depth of it then post my findings but as of right now it works well doing what it claims it can do.

130 mbits / second is fine for me with the DIR-655.
