well i finally had some time off and reflash my linksys wrt350n with dd-wrt v24.

i did everythin accordin to the help i got in my previews thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=269482&page=2

at first i couldn't get any internet access at all, even from my desktop (wired to router). after messin around with the settings ,and multiple factory default resets, i finally got my desktop up.

when i try to connect my laptop wirelessly, it tells me that the settings on my router and laptop dont match. i tried restoring factory defaults AND resetting the modem, but still nada =(

could any wireless guru's please please help? this is pretty urgent as i need my laptop up and running.

    edit: i have a Dell XPS M1530.
    - intel 4965AGN wireless card
    - linksys wrt350n with DD-WRT v24 reflash (mini first ~> then generic)
    - internet and everything was working prior to the reflash. CANNOT obtain wireless connection AFTER reflash.
    - ALSO: i noticed that the security light on my router is SOLID ORANGE. i could've sworn it used to be SOLID GREEN.

    Hi,
I've setup a few dozen WRT's w/ DD-WRT in wireless point to point's, WDS and as access points. The DD-WRT forums and WIKI will help you through most things. The problem you are describing is pretty vague. I may be able to help you through it with more info. Feel free to email me directly and I'll do what I can.

Depending on your ISP you may need to clone your MAC address. Wireless is best diag using ipconfig /all and using the ping cmd's to see whats working. Fist is see if your getting an IP address, then check your gateway and dns numbers. With wireless you only have a few choices. Your SSID, WPA(2) AES.

i already cloned my MAC address a few times. after reinstallin DD-WRT a 2nd time (mini flash and generic), 30/30/30 reset, factory default, then MAC clone. i was finally able to get my desktop to have connection (wired to router).

i have my wireless settings at: WPA2 personal , AES, and my laptop detects my SSID. but it keeps tellin me that my router and laptop settings do not match.

i know it'll be really hard and time consuming if we try to trouble shoot it thru this thread.

if anyone could please help me, i have AIM and MSN. it'll be much easier to trouble shoot that way.

p.s. - i kinda had a similar problem the other day. i was still on OEM linksys firmware at the time. EVERYTHING was workin fine. i got curious to why my laptop said i was only connected at 54mbps (wireless). i then changed the router's mode to detect 'wireless-n only.' then for some reason i could not get my laptop to connect with my router anymore. it kept tellin me the same thing like right now. "the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network." so does this mean my network card is set up wrong? i have never touched any of the settings yet.

edit: and would anyone happen to know why my security light turned orange? i remember it bein a solid green light when my wpa2 security was on. now its just a solid orange. please someone help =(

I just got a new WRT54GL last week and setup DD-WRT on it and had this problem. I ended up having to clear out all of my wireless settings in Vista, rebooting and starting over again. It was really just more of a pain in the ass than I have ever had with setting up wireless.

lol i was literally about to give up and order the d-link wireless-n router. but on my final try i deleted all the previous networks. restored all defaults and actually connected my laptop to the router and set up the router thru there. started from scratch and made sure i didn't mess anythin up...well i got up and took out the ethernet and all of a sudden i had wireless!!! :)

    before DD-WRT reflash it was showing me 54mbps. now i'm connected at 130mbps. :D :D :D

We have to remember that computers are dummies, garbage in garbage out, so 99% of getting the network/internet up an running properly doesn't depends on the computer but on the person sitting on the chair.

I tend to agree with PEBKAC, but this time I chalk it up to a terrible network manager.

I think Vista does quite an effective job managing the network, way better than XP.

130mbps indicate that you are narrow band, try changing the settings to jump up to wide (40mhz) and see if you will get a faster speed.

Glad to see you are getting things working.

lol u have no idea how itchy my hands are...i want to turn up my settings to see if i can get a better connection. i just dont want to have to sit there for a few hours and trouble shoot again. i was curious one time, i changed the router to pick up wireless-n only, and i could not get my wireless to pick up the router. me and a linksys tech couldn't even figure it out after a good hour. i ended up havin to turn it back to mixed mode.

when i first got the wireless to work, after DD-WRT install, i saw it say i was connected at 270mbps for about a few mins. now i'm at a solid 130mbps in my room (about 30-40 ft away on 2nd floor) and have full bars throughout my house. :D

i really appreciate all u guys for helpin me. especially wirelessman and blue...u my boy blue! ;)

Verify also if you have the transmit power at maximum, you can see that in your wireless adapter.

    That's what you are receiving.

Just go to device manager, select the network adapter and then the wireless adapter, then select the advanced tab, and choose maximum transmit power.

    cool thanks.

its on level 5 - highest.

i also added my buddy's laptop to the network (wireless-g) and let me tell u...it was SO much easier with DD-WRT than the linksys firmware. i usually have to reset my router ~> connect the laptop directly to the router ~> wait for linksys program to start up and detect all my settings ~> goes thru the process of initializing/detecting settings ~> then i have wireless again.

but after the reflash, all i had to do was enter my key and done.

Usually blue is right, DD-WRT is really good.

The throughput will go down as you get farther from the router. And albeit you get all the bars, you might still don't get the maximum router throughput, you could test the link, get closer to the router and note the throughput, then walk until you go down to 130Mbps, that's your distance boundary.

If you connect to the dd-wrt admin, wireless, advanced settings. you can adj the power output on the router. You can run in overdrive, but doing so may shorten the radio's life.

Wireless man your to kind. I'm having to limit my input. With a broken left wrist (in a cast) it's hard to type, among other things.
