Hey all, I have an old wrt 300n v1.1 I want to dust off and use to extend my wifi from my Netgear 3700 in another room. I want to be able to connect via wireless to the 3700 and plug my ps3, tv and receiver into the Linksys.
I am not sure what FW to download and install so if anyone can provide some direction it would be greatly appreciated. I have been on the site and it seems like there are different versions...mini etc...TIA for any replies...cheers!!!

The DD-WRT website will tell you which specific version of DD-WRT you can install on your wrt 300n v1.1. Search through the list of supported devices.

The micro, mini, etc. versions are for routers that don't have enough memory to install the full version of DD-WRT.

DO NOT, I repeate DO NOT use the router data base to find your version. It is NOT populated by the people who write compile and test and or use the firmwares.

Use the router data base to find the wiki for your router, use that for the initial flashing. THEN join the forums where the real recommended builds are and people who can help you.

All of the database recommended v24 builds are BAD, they will get you on DDWRT but I cant say you want to use em very long.

Note that the definition of full DDWRT varies. 4MB is the prefered but theyre are larger versions than standard. My new router has 32mb of flash and i think the large build is 6MB lol.

    Checking for you gunned
The recommended 13064 in the database is BAD. Here is the link to the wiki which is usually slightly more up to date then the database - http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_WRT300N_v1,_v1.1

Further looking as usual the darn wiki links wont work. You may wish to join the forum and chat with them before doing the flash. The database lists an initial flash image which needs to be done with some routers. The wiki lists two different files either way you will be using the Mini v24 builds.

The version you will want in the end
As for the version you will want to be using once your on DD-WRT 14929 is the recommended build and there is a WRT300N specific versions - "dd-wrt.v24_mini_wrt300nv11.bin" in - ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2010/08-12-10-r14929/broadcom/ is the firmware you will want to be running when all is said and done. Note that as always its important todo a 30/30/30 reset before and after each flash.

Im sorry that I cant advise you on the initial flash (still looking though).

    Other Notes
Other notes, while the flash is big enough on your router to use a larger than mini build the build for your router is specific and no one has done a mega for it recently. Mini will be fine for Client, Repeater and or Bridge. If you need help configuring let me know. It also appears that if you so chose its possible to get a Kernel 2.6 based firmware build for this router.

LATEST UPDATE - I also found out why none of the wiki links are working, the directory structure of the site literally changed last night.

I sent you a PM it seems the old wiki download doesnt exist at all so i started a thread on the DD-WRT forum asking if its safe to initial flash with the build you should be using anyways.

Alrighty then. File to use - ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSl...14929/broadcom/dd-wrt.v24_mini_wrt300nv11.bin

I have done 4 different routers and never have set my IP. But its still a good idea to follow instructions to the letter. Just ignore the link in 1 and use the new one. The proper hard reset is to push in the reset button for 30 seconds, while still holding it unplug the router for 30 seconds and still holding the reset plug it back in and keep on it for 30 seconds more then let go. Do it before u do the flash and do it once after everything's done. Be patient.
