I have this router D-link DIR-615 for a year now, that is giving me some problems from time to time that I can't figure it out.
We use this at home for connecting 2 laptops, 1 desktop pc, an IP telephone. Our internet provider gives a speed of 10 Mb, but I can only test the speed to be between 0,8 to 5 Mb on my laptop which use this router. When connecting the same laptop directly (without the router) it usually gives a good speed, but the problem is the router is somehow not sending a sufficient amount of data constantly. My internet provider says that it has to do with my router and not from their systems.

The router's driver is updated to the latest and using a brand new ethernet cable. The distance from the router to the pc's and the phone is not long that will cause problems.

I was wondering if someone has any suggestions to get a better speed out of a router.
    thanks in advance.

your what i assume to be download speeds of .8-5mbps speeds are normal. what kind of download speeds are you seeing when connecting directly to the <s style='color: rgb(51, 51, 51); background-color: rgb(250, 250, 250); '>modem</s> router?

the download speed is usually lower than the upload speed. It varies from time to time, and thats the one I wrote earlier between 0.8 to 5 Mb.

Now the situation is that it hardly connects, and if it does the speed is low. I guess its time to buy a new one.

I assume that the download speed is fine when a computer is connected to the router via Ethernet cable, isn't it?

Yes the download speed is great when it is connected through ethernet cable.

Use inSSIDer to check what channels are in use by your neighbors and if you chose the optimal channel.
If you're using one that is overcrowded and/or overlapping with other channels in use change the channel on the router and check if it helps.

2.4GHz is an open band and is being used by not only Wi-Fi devices but also by Bluetooth, cordless phones, child monitors, remote controlled devices and so on so the fact that inSSIDer shows that channel is (relatively) free means only that there are no Wi-Fi devices on it.
That means that you should start with testing free ones and if that doesn't help check all of them.

I have now installed the inSSIDer and it shows on the 2.4 GHz that my router has the highest amplitude compare to the other neighbors. I have changed the channel to 6, where it was previously set to automatically.
I need to test it for a while before I can give any further results, as it use to be different speed from time to time, but now its working good.
So far thanks for the help.
