    Anyone have this Router?
I've managed to get nothing, but headaches.
I've managed to get the first one replaced and even switched to a Netgear W**834b and it kept on dropping the connection every 10 secs.
I did a ping trace to google and that's how I got my response.
I went back to the DIR-655.
This time being very meticulous of my settings.
I did notice that every time I used DHCP and forwarded ports I would get completely disconnected from the internet. IOW the router would ping out.
I've managed how to use disable the UPnP on the router and enabled it on the software.
I don't know if this would limit the software's connectivity and communication.
    So here are my settings
    WIRELESS NETWORK SETTINGS:
    802.11: Mixed
Enable Auto Channel Scan : Unchecked
    Wireless Channel: 2.412 GHZ-CH1
    Transmission Rate: Best
    Channel Width: 20Mhz
    Security Mode : None

    ADVANCED NETWORK:
    Enable UPnP: Checked
    WAN Port Speed: Auto
    Multicast Streams : Unchecked

    WI-FI Protected Setup:
    Enable: Unchecked

    ADVANCED WIRELESS SETTINGS:
    Beacon Period: 80
    WLAN PARTITION: Unchecked
    WMM Enable: Unchecked
    Short GI: Unchecked

Anything else I can do to not get dropped?

I've been running this router without any problems. Have you installed the latest firmware?

I'm running 1.05. You might want to downgrade and see if the firmware is the problem. I don't have any special settings - other than using WPA2+AES. I also have all D-Link equipment, but I successfully ran my Intel 3945ABG on my e1705 and didn't have any connection troubles.

Have you registered on the D-Link forums? *Edit* I see that you have. Hopefully between here and there you'll find a solution to the router problem.

Have you tried switching channels? If possible, can you try a D-Link, Intel, or Linksys wireless NIC?

Hi, I have the same router, had some trouble myself, but it wasnt the routers fault.
What is your exact problem? The connection is dropping?
Plus set the channel width to automatic

    Downgraded.
I went to WPA & WPA2 security since i still have an Atheros 5112 chip on a x40.
I went back to 1.05 and I've just about left everything on default.
However, my downloads are slow on eMule.
I went ahead and did port forwarding.
    Disabled UPnP
    WAN PORT: 10MBPs
    Enabled Multi cast
    Beacon : 80
    WLAN Partition: Unchecked
    Enable SPI: Unchecked

I own the DIR-655 also, got constant connection drops and slow speed.
But I do have the Intel 4965AGN card inside my laptop... I got the weird feeling the Intel is causing the problem.... Anyone got any insides ?

I went ahead and contacted D-Link and I told them to replace it directly from their warehouse.
It seems to be more stable than before.

Their 'support' sucks too, I've never buy a D-Link product again...

I have a HP dv2419us. It came with a broadcom 4321 a/b/g/draft n card. I got a new DIR-655, sick of the Netgears 834B/M dropping signals. Still had the same problem. Got a Belkin draft N card, better speed, better stability, no connection over 270mbps, still dropping signal and speed for no reason. Got a D-Link DWA-643 laptop express card today in the mail. She SCREAMS at 300mbps. Stable, no drop signal, speed steady. What can I say- same manufacturer.

Old thread, but since I picked up this router recently, all I have to say is guys, you need to match up manufacturer chipsets that the router is using, NOT the brand name of the router itself.

DLink sells a usb wireless adapter that supposedly matches this router, but it uses a Marvell chipset while this router uses an Atheros XSpan chipset.

I know, I know, how is the average consumer supposed to know all this?

Well they don't know and that is why so many people have wireless headaches.

I have a Belkin N1 and it also uses the Atheros XSpan chipset, but for some reason I get better range with that router and my HTPC's Netgear WG111T usb wireless adapter.

Although this router is much better in terms of its routing capabilities. Can handle so many more connections (torrent, p2p) than the crappy Belkin N1.

I'm still playing with it, as I got it today, to see if I can get a better wireless connection.

Probably just certain settings it likes or something.

    We'll see.

Edit:: To the guy who said their certain downloads were slow? It's probably your ISP that's throttling your connection for using torrents or a P2P program.
