I've got the N router from D-Link, updated firmware. I have not seen the connection to my sony notebook past 68mbps...and most of the time it runs at 48...why is that? I have excellent signal and my viao is Draft N compatible.

Is there something i need to set?

    Any suggestions are appreciated!

What distance and signal strength are you getting?

What is your ISP? And what service do you have?

I'm about 5 feet away from the unit physically.
Signal strength is almost always EXCELLENT

That's a good question...I go to college and it's whatever isp my appartment uses.
Will the Router only broadcast at speeds that my current connection will max out at? If that's the case I can understand that, since most of the times I can only download around 200kbps steadily with bursts of up to 500. And sometimes its even worse. I believe our connections are capped and students love to use the net.

Is there anything i need to set on the router itself or on my notebook?
I just reformatted last night and I am still seeing the same results.

just because your card is N, don' expect to reach the full N network speeds, even with a draft n router

i had a broadcom a/g/n card in my old laptop and didn't hit over 48mbps, until we got d-link n cards to match the router. each company is still using proprietary information until the final draft n is realeased- in other words their N equipment isn't really compatible with one another. Also, not sure what chip your card has, so, there are things you can do to speed it up, fine tune to some extent, but unless you really changed it's default setiings, the speed your getting now is probably as good as it's going to get from that router card/combination.
