In general, which has a better coverage, signal, stability? D-Link 825 or 655? Linksys N/Dual N router?

This router is for other people living in the house. As long as everyone has a strong signal, no drops or random cut offs and something I can just leave it and forget it. It's a three story high building. They will be using the wireless only for sharing the internet and no files between each other.

    655. Doubt the 825 can cover 3 stories. Main reason to get the 825 is if you have interference issues (wireless mouse etc) and/or need the faster routing speed (torrenting etc). For higher density wifi areas like a dorm it is much better than the 655. I went from a 655 to a 825 for those reasons as the 655's connection was unstable due to interference (I had 10+ Wifi networks around me, along with at least the same number of RF mouse etc). Does not sound like an issue for you though.

Will all laptops be able to connect to 5.8 GHz? Or will only the latest laptops be able to connect to it?

You need a N card that supports 5.8GHz. Intel's 4965AGN, 5100 and 5300 can. Easiest way to tell is to see whether the N card supports A as well.

Would you say that the D-Link 825 has everything that the D-Link 655 has and more?

No. 655 will give you better range and for a 3 story building I think you will need it.

I asked customer service the same question and they said

"This is not the case, The DIR-825 will provide the same coverage.

    Best Regards,

    D-Link Customer Service"

But the 655 does have more antennae. Could that really contribute to better coverage?

The third antenna will improve the signal strength.

You seem to want the 825 so just get it and if it does not work out find something else.

I think I'm going to get the 825 first. If the signal strength isn't enough I'll give the 655 a try. Thank you so much.
