Hope someone can help me here. Just bought a new HP 8510p notebook and can't get my Bluetooth mouse to connect.

Running XP SP2 with all latest patches. When I click Bluetooth Configuration in the control panel, it hangs for about 10 secs then cryptically pops up with "Bluetooth device not found. Please verify that your Bluetooth device is properly connected and turned on."

Checked that Bluetooth is enabled in the BIOS, the radio lights are on, Device Manager says the "Bluetooth Enumerator" is present and "working properly". Nothing in Device Manager is flagged as unknown or inoperable.

Tried re-installing latest BT drivers from the HP site, to no avail - it gets near the end then prompts me to turn on the Bluetooth device (though it seems to be on!) and won't let me go any further.

Strangely, my friend's 8510 is behaving the same way, though BT used to work fine on that machine but isn't now for some reason. So I doubt it's a hardware fault on this new one, as both machines are acting the same. I must be missing something.

What else can I check? Really scratching my head here!

My bluetooth shows up as HP Wireless module with bluetooth 2.0 (or something like that). I don't think the bluetooth enumerator is actually the transceiver, its part of the software. So your Bluetooth has gone MIA. Maybe a loose cable?

Yup, the bluetooth switch on these machines is a button with a blue "on" light, along the top of the keyboard. Hitting it turns the radio on and off, which also indicates as a small blue LED at the bottom of the unit, next to the power and HDD LEDs.

The lights are on when I try to connect or run Bluetooth Config. So unless there's another physical switch I don't know about (can't find one) then that's it. But I assume the blue light on means radio is on..

I'm not sure on your model, but do you have the HP assistant or whatever it's called now, configured to turn on both the BT and wifi, or is that still an option? Also, it seems like I had to set it up in the bios, of my dv2419us, on what the switch controlled.....wifi, BT or both

    hope that helps a little........

Did you re-boot after downloading the latest driver?

Thanks for the help, I checked the BIOS, Bluetooth device was on ok. So I tried to install the latest BT software, called " Software Support for HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth Wireless Technology" here:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...55678&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1093#11395

When I rebooted, Windows would begin loading then reboot, over and over at the same point - even trying to boot in Safe Mode wouldn't help. Disabled BT device in the BIOS too, no difference! I had to restore the entire C drive from an image I (thankfully) made last night.

Geez what a nightmare just to get Bluetooth working. Very odd. Anything else I can try? :)
