I am in a bad state right now. I was trying to help my friend to get his router working. Nothing was happening. Now all of a sudden, when i jack the ethernet from the PC to the modem, its not connecting anymore. The "Lan and High-Speed Internet" isnt showing up in Network connections. I tried to reinstall the drivers of the modem but it then says there was no detection of an ethernet card. What is going on?

Sounds like a bad cable or a flaky NIC card. Did you try resetting the modem?

Try with a different cable and resetting the modem.

I tried resetting the modem and also used the ethernet cable that came with the router. I called comcast numerous times. Nothing is helping thus far. I feel bad too. = (

When you plug the network cable into the computer does it detect a Lan connection?

It does not. There is no icon for it. I reinstalled some drivers for it and was able to get "Local Area Connection 3" icon back. However, i still cannot connnect.

Comcast uses MAC filtering to control access. You may need to clone the MAC address of the PC used to setup the account into the router. This way comcast will think the router is the pc and allow access.
