    Hi,

I have a Dell 1520 and use the Netgear Rangemax Wireless Router to connect to the internet. When I start the laptop and log on to Vista it picks up the router pretty quickly but the connection to the internet takes sometimes nearly 2-3 minutes? I have made my connection secure but I am sure this is just somehow a registry issue.

Can anyone suggest of how to speed up the connection to the internet?

    Thanking you in advance.

I wonder whether this is Vista (which I assume you have got).

I'm sure that one of the innumerable Vista patches addressed some issues relating to network connections.

I am using 64 bit Vista and have no such problems establishing a wireless internet connection. It picks up and connects instantly for me.

I would recommend trying to update your wireless drivers or see if any other drivers are available. A quick search on the site here and a browse through the Dell forums makes it seem like a lot of 1520 owners are experiencing varying wireless issues. Many of these issues seem to be driver related. There are a few different options for potential wireless cards as well so that is definitely a factor.

Are you running factory default settings or did you reformat and re-install Vista?

I am using the default factory settings. Where is a reliable source to download drivers for my wireless card?

You could probably find some on www.dell.com. You can log in if you have a Dell account there with your laptop stored and they should be easily available for your specific machine. If you do not have an account you can enter the number from your tag or select your specific model. Selecting your model is the least preferable option since it will give drivers for all wireless cards, not just the one you have in your specific machine.

Another option is to ask the users in the Dell forums here what drivers work best for them and where they got them. The manufacturer of whatever wireless card you have may them available on their website outside of what Dell has. There could be more available this way or older ones available (if a newer one is causing a conflict).
