So my wireless connection on my Laptop says connected and a 5 bar connection, but when trying to go on web pages will not connect.I can connect through Ethernet on all 3 of my computers.
I am running windows Vista, DIR-628 router, and Atheros AR928X Wireless Network Adapter. I was trying to Google it and how I should try to ipconfig/flushdns, didn't work as you can tell.

Also, if it is any importance, I can not go to 192.168.0.1.

do an ipconfig /all in CMD and see what kind of IP address you are getting. If you are not getting 192.168.x.1 then you aren't connected properly.

Do you have the latest Atheros Vista drivers or do you have any older driver to test out?

Use your desktop and connect to your Router and check all wireless settings.

    I'm guessing a driver issue.

I have an Atheros card on my Dell E1705 but wasn't able to connect to my wireless router without using the original driver

In Network and Sharing Center, click MANAGE WIRELESS NETWORKS on the left

select and remove all wireless networks

    reboot.

    Reconnect to your wireless network,

    report back

After removing all wireless connections and rebooting, it stills says connected and it still will not allow me to load web pages. Also where would I go to find an older version of my driver?

Here is what the ipconfig said after I did the aforementioned reboot.

Your not getting an ip address in there. Is your router broadcasting dhcp? (and forget what fins is saying, its not a driver problem).

Wait it doesnt show your wireless adapter in there only your built in lan - which has dns info from comcast. Were you connected with an ethernet cable when you were doing that? Dont leave us in the dark on details, its hard to know exactly what your doing.

No I unplugged the Ethernet cable when doing ipconfig/all.
I'll do it another time with both scenarios.

I still think its driver issues. Since you stated you are using the ones from MS update, go and download and install the ones from Atheros instead. you have nothing to lose at this point.

but there is NO wireless interface listed there at all!

In device manager, is the wireless device listed? Without a yellow explanation mark?

If it is, right click, choose PROPERTIES, go to DRIVER tab, and roll back the driver.

Wonder if you installed the correct driver.....

It reinstalls the earlier drivers that were working. Vista keeps copies of old drivers so that if a new driver does not work, you can roll back to the previous driver

I really don't think this is a driver issue....of, course, try it, but there is something else going on...probably a damaged ip stack.

    Do the following

    Start, type
    cmd

wait a second until CMD appears in the search area atop the menu

    right click CMD
    and select "Run As Administrator"

Type the following commands, each followed by pressing enter.
    ipconfig /flushdns
    nbtstat -R
    nbtstat -RR
    netsh int reset all
    netsh int ip reset
    netsh winsock reset
    reboot

depends on what you mean--it clearly wasn't a case of a "bad" driver--as in, poorly written, or causing blue screens--corrupted driver maybe. Still think it was the IP stack.

completely removing and reinstalling would have also repaired that....either way, just glad his is working

further though: no, it wouldn't. you are probably right. I was likely a corrupted driver that wasn't being corrected by overrighting whatever was bad. The complete removal was likely the only realistic cure

No i think he had something misconfigured somewhere. By removing the driver and putting it back on it might have corrected the mistake he had somewhere.
