Hi, my desktop wired lan has connection to local internet but when you try to go to webpage, it just says can't play this webpage. If I tried to repair it, than the connection is lost. Could someone help me reset this darn thing. I went in and set the automatic ip setting but still doesnt work.

Need to see if you have a valid DNS server and Gateway. From the CMD Window try some pings like:

    Ping 98.137.149.56 (test gateway)
    Ping yahoo.com (test DNS Servers)

If these do not work first make sure your Personal FW is not blocking your access.

    you cant ping 192.168.1.1?

This is a wired connection? what is between your PC and the router? switch? or just straight to it?

Reset router(unplug and replug) and then do an ipconfig /renew from the cmd prompt.

From there ping the gateway(192.168.1.1) and if it works, do "tracert 98.137.149.56"

If you see multiple lines, odds are you have internet.

From there do yahoo.com instead of the IP, that will verify your DNS is setup and working good. if this dies, I would switch DNS servers. I use google for them(8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) you can modify these in the same area you change IP addresses, just the bottom portion of the page though ;)

Give that a go and report back.

Sorry, pinging my router does reply. I guess i pinged when it was disconnected when it didn't reply. it's just that when I type www.anythinghere.com it doesn't work, including yahoo.com. The network icon still connected(balloon). If i tried to trouble shoot with windows again, it's will just disconnect.

Now as for the router, there's nothing wrogn with it. I have 4 wireless loging on to it and 2 LAN with the third one i'm using to type right now.

So were you able to Ping 98.137.149.56 this IP?

If so your router is not passing down the DNS server IP's. Connect to the router and look a the Gateway (ISP) connection info. Take those DNS number and plug them in to your tcp/ip settings. Or use one of the other DNS servers available.

Ok, i was able to ping the router ip 192.168.1.1, I haven't tried the 98.137.149.56 yet. Only ping it. If i type it on the address line as I was gonna go in and modify it, it's like opening any other website. Page can't be display/found or something like that.

    So what is this 98.137.149.56?

If you ping google.com (no www), does it work? It should resolve to an IP address If not, there is a problem with the DNS, and you probably need to go into the connection properties and set the router as your DNS server.

    Edit:
I see that it is not working. What OS are you running?
