Hey I work at a store and we have 2 computers that we want to hook up with dsl and both computers are in different rooms. Neither computer is wireless capable, so would it be ok if I just got 2 modems and hooked em up to a phone line in each room? There wouldn't be any problems right?

Not unless you paying for 2 dsl lines. Add a wireless card their cheap these day. Get a usb type then you want have to open the case.

You register the mac address of the modem with your isp. You get one Modem with each connection. The 2nd modem will not work unless you pay for a second line. You could get a router and run cat5 ethernet cable between the 2 rooms or get a wireless router and wireless cards like blue said.

I think a switch may work in this case also.

Will require a router unless he wants to pay extra for a second ip. Besides he will add a hardware firewall with the router for extra security.

No it will not. A modem will give you 1 public ip address. You need a router to make the network have multiple (private) ip addresses.

I think you will also need two phone numbers depending on the carrier.

Correct. A router is the only viable solution here. Whether you go wired or wireless is up to you, but to share a connection with more than one computer you need a router.

Okay...pardon my ignorance! Don't know that much about the DSL technology. I've seen an ADSL modem connected to a switch and three cat5 cables going to computers w/ all being able to connect to the Internet. I guess w/ that set up they are paying for three lines. I'll have to investigate.

    *Update:
Basically, the modem has DHCP functionality as well, thereby being able to give out IP Addresses to the PCs via the switch, but the IPs I am told are not reachable.
