My buddy has this problem with his computer not connection to his network automatically when he turns it on..He has to hit Ctrl F2 for it to connect. Anyone have any ideas how he can fix this so he doesn't have to do anything and it will connect on its own.

    Try this:

    start>run>services.msc

scroll down to "Wireless Zero Configuration"
    right-click, properties
    for start-up type, select automatic

Then, try a system restart, and once the system restarts, go to services and see if the wireless zero config. service is started. (also, see if it is started before you change anything)

But is the service started after start-up before messing w/ the properties?

And btw, what type of wireless card is it?

Does he happen to have a dell? because my Fn + F2 will turn on and off my wireless card. It is possible that every time he shuts down it is turning itself on thus not allowing him to connect. This happened to me, i just updated my drivers and voila all better

That is the same command on some Gateways. Probably a pretty universal key combo. Is he maybe pressing Fn+F2 before he turns it off for any reason (thus the reason to have to press it again to turn it back on)?

Otherwise you may wanna look for some setting in the wireless card that is disabling the "radio" automatically on shuttoff.

And the driver update, as suggested, would also be a good place to start.

He has an Averatec. He has to do this to turn his wirless card on correct. He said it only started doing it once he downloaded some program from Averatec but he can't uninstall it or his wireless won't work period. I am not sure what kind of wireless card he has but I can ask.

    don't mess with msconfig

the problem is you have the wifi card set to OFF by deafult in the BIOS

boot into the setup and make sure it's set to be ON on boot

it may also have to do with battery/ac power configs he has setup; check those too

I hate to be a pain man, but could you kinda explain this, kind of a step by step guide, or at least how to get into the bios. I thought it was F10 but he said that did not work.

Yes, it should be in the BIOS, your computer manufacturer will detail how to get into Setup, ie BIOS, he will have to switch pages (usually keyed by pg down and pg up) until he finds the wireless card. Also, get him to open up his options in the program he downloaded and check that Radio is enabled like another perosn suggested, this could also be the problem.
