    Ok...
3 pc's trying to play the game...after firewalls, AV, and other misc. apps turned off, two of the pc's can connect and play...one is left out.
the two that can play are vista OS, the other xp.
also, the xp unit is the host for all three pc's.
there are times when the xp unit can be seen on the other units, i.e. want to join or in the list, but then it times out and dc's the xp unit from the LAN.

is there something we are missing? can it be that xp and vista are the issues as far as (non) compatabilty?

    any insight would be appreciated....

Do all three computers belong to the same workgroup? Do all three connect to a router? If so, do they all get IP addresses assigned, or do they use static IP addresses?

two connect via wireless to the router. the xp unit is hardwire to it.
the game seems to assign each pc a different ip...but i can verify that tonight since i am not 100% on that.
it is just strange how the xp unit seems to time out compared to the vista ones. and he is the hub.

Games don't assign IP addresses. Your router assigns the IP addresses, if you have DHCP enabled.

    thats what i meant....lol
i will chk to see if each unit has a different ip assigned then tonight.
the game shows the adddress for that unit i think is what i was refering to.
but could there be an underlining issue with the xp unit?
cause his is the only one that can not stay in the game or log into a game.

    update...
still can not get the router to function with this game, so we all installed warcraft and evryone and everything can access and play at the same time.

again the xp unit is the only one having issues with CC3.
we have tried multiple configs with the router to no avail.
anyone have any other ideas we could be missing?

It may or may not be the problem, but try enabling/disabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP

Here is how to do it
    http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/troubleshoot/netbt.htm

Enable it if disabled, otherwise disable it if already enabled.
