This past Friday I purchased a Clearwire modem after being assured that I was in a reasonably coverage area. Well there are three towers in my neighborhood and Clearwire isn't able to stay connected to either of them longer than a minute with one bar of signal strength. I've tried the attic, the garage, the backyard, the front porch, and every room in the house. Unless you guys have another suggestions I gonna return to the store this week.

So the next question is what Broadband service do I use? I need an air card to travel through the day with me. The only problem is the level of reception at my home - except for winter it always sucks. We have two service providers in my home: Sprint who never has a clear or consistent signal - so they are in the running. TMobile and Cingulair (AT&T) have great service outside and lesser service inside, espcially in the Spring and Summer when the trees are in full bloom. So I come down to Verizon who has (according to their map) solid coverage in my neighborhood and the entire city. But I've heard that they terminate service with persons considered excessive in their usage (more than 5GB per month, per line). I spend quite a bit of time on line for personal, professional, and educational use. So before I fork over my money again: does anyone know the truth about their excessive use policy and the "solidness" of their coverage? Any other recommendations that I can pursue? I need Broadband by October 15th.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

PS: Other considerations - I live less than two miles from the county airport and am surrounded by pockets of federally protected swampland.

they should give you a limited trial period to try it out and see how their coverage is. as for the bandwidth, i believe they are all strict about it. i think most even block, or throttle bandwidth on certain cites like youtube.

Yeah, they said that but i didn't want to go through the hassle if my usage profile wold be problematic. And sales associates will tell you anything to make the sell.

On a different tangent: Is it possible I have a bad modem from Clearwire? I mean how can it fail to connect to either one of three towers all of which are 1.5 or 1.6 miles away from my house?
