Any modern laptop has an ethernet port and a USB port, so it has everthing it takes to connect to the Internet though DSL. The real question is whether you already have a home network with a router. That is necessary to be able to connect more than one computer to the Internet at the same time. If you do not have a router, then he would have to unplug the current computer in order to connect his laptop in. If you do not want to do that, then you will need a home router. If you have a router, then you just need an ethernet cable to plug the laptop into the router.

if you only have one computer at home thats connected to the internet now, you are going to need a router to connect multiple computers to the internet. since your sons laptop has a built-in wireless card and ethernet port, there is no need to buy any extra devices to hook up to the internet. i would however, recommend perhaps getting a wireless router. this can still be used with your current wired connection, but will allow your son to connect to the internet throughout your house without the need for wires. this might also be beneficial if maybe you decide to get yourself a notebook for xmas...[ :D]
