In the Choose a Wireless Network window box, where I Connect the laptop to the router, I see: belkin54, linksys, MYCONNECTION, (secured network), (secured network), and Unsecured computer-to-computer network.

Unsecured computer-to-computer network has an icon of two laptops, whereas the other modems have the towers.

What is "Unsecured computer-to-computer network" and what would happen if i were to try and connect to it?

another computer, it is not a router. connnecting to it usually means you cannot do anything other than exchange files with that computer. However, it could also mean someone is playing "man in the middle attack" which would let you connect and browse the internet as usual. Just that the can take over your DNS request and route you to their server, pretending to be your bank website for example.

    Be careful.

Computer to computer is called adhoc. But can be very dangerous if you do not know who you are connecting to. Do not use this type of connections outside of your known enviroment. If you see this in a hot spot some one is trying to capture personal info. But with any public place do not do any thing with banking. It is just to easy for someone to capture your login cridentials. If you need to do criticle stuff always do it through a secure link, ssl VPN ...
