i have a Intel 4965AGN card. i want to get a router with the most range for less than 70-80. I was planning on getting a g mimo router but that seems to have kind of a smaller selection and more expensive then the cheapest n routers.
The d-link DIR-615 is only 50. Does this have mimo and can it go into 5 ghz mode? I only read 2.5 ghz on the site and i hear that n works best on 5 ghz. Whats the risk of it being draft n? How important is a adapter with the same chipset.
the only cheap g mimo router is the Belkin Wireless-G Plus MIMO(F5D92304 for 62). there also a few enhanced g routers for 55-70. is mimo > "enhanced".

my main goal is range(work well downstairs) what should i pick.

I have just the regular wrt54g from 5 years ago and it works great down stairs. (the router is on the 2nd floor of a brick home). I dont think you should have a problem reaching anywhere in your house with a wireless n router. From what i know though, "a" gives the longest distance.

It's hard to find these new right now because of the court case against Buffalo, but the Buffalo AG108 would be great if you find one cheap (Which sadly is hard right now, they've all gone up in price now that they are hard to get).

I would try to find something that does A though, just because of the range you'll get with it.

Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 or the WHR-G54S, but are hard to get due the injunction. But MIMO only works if you have a matching card. So most built in cards do not support it. I would avoid Belkin, I have yet to install one that worked more than 30 days, so after 6 units I quit installing them. The Linksys WRT54G & GS models you want to avoid, only the GL is any good. If you push the other models they crash.

The 5 ghz band does not penetrate walls very well. And will only be found on 11a and some n models.

Look at dd-wrt linux firmware, and buy only models supported by it. Then you will have a lot more options available to you.
