    Hi guys
Having a nightmare trying to get decent speeds out of this card. I feel like ripping it out and putting something else in (is that possible or are the cards you can use BIOS locked like HP?).

Basically I have a vaio F12M0E, and it has the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 wifi card and I'm connecting to a Linksys WAG325N modem/router. It connects fine and I can access internet and all that good stuff, but only at 54mbps. I updated the wifi drivers to the latest ones and in the Intel software can see that my router is broadcasting in both G and N, however no matter what I seem to try, it only ever connects in G mode.

So I'm wondering if anyone has some advice regarding what mixture of settings I should be using? It doesn't matter if I don't get top speed or even near it, just something around 108mbps would be great to ensure I get the top speed from my broadband.

The kicker is, my mum bought her laptop before mine, for about 1/3 of the price, and hers is running wireless N at 150mbps no hassle whatsoever. Do I have a crappy wireless card, or is it the router?

Here are my wireless settings in the router.
On the security tab the encryption is WPA2 Personal and either TKIP or AES (I believe it uses both, but I set my laptop to AES as I had head that you cannot get max speed on TKIP or some such thing).

    Any help would be appreciated.

Well you are right- you can't get "n" speeds with TKIP so don't set it to TKIP or AES on the router.
Just to be on the safe side ( and eliminate one variable) set it to WPA2+AES.
It's supported by all hardware that's no more than 6 years old so there should not be a problem.

I guess I'm stuffed then. The router doesn't have an option for one or the other, the only option it has is TKIP or AES (both of them together). Thanks for the quick reply. No point checking Linksys site cause I already have the latest firmware. What a downer.

That is unless I look in the source for the page and see if I can figure out some way to submit a command for AES only.

Are you sure that you've chosen "WPA2 Personal", not "WPA2 Mixed"?
WPA2 Personal should have two options for encryption "TKIP or AES" and "AES" whereas WPA2 Mixed should have only the first one "TKIP or AES".

Nope. TKIP or AES is the only option available. That goes for all the other variants of WPA too.

I just tried running unsecured to avoid any potential TKIP AES issues and it's still stuck at 54mbps.

Try setting the first setting on your card properties to Auto instead of 20mhz only.

Wireless Properties>Properties>Configure>advanced>802.11n channel Width for band 2.4

    I am using WPA2-Personal - AES

Just thought I'd give people an update. Just changed to Virgin for cable and got a Virgin branded Netgear router from them. My laptop connects to that router fine at 300mbps.

Old router is now being used as a gigabit switch :)
