Strange issue with the Centrino 2230 card on my Inspiron 15z.

At first I was getting a slow/unstable connection but I changed the channel on the router and now the wifi connects at 130mbps but can drop down a little.

I have 4-5 bars of signal, yet it can't remotely deliver the speed of my internet connection (38mbps).

When doing a speed test I get about 6mbps max.

Using an ethernet cable I get the full 38mbps.

It is an issue with where the laptop is placed, but my android phone gets the full 38mbps when sat right next to the laptop.

    Is this chipset a joke?

Try disabling Bluetooth. I haven't heard about this particular issue in connection with Intel 2230 but it was rather widespread among 6230 users.
The reason was that both BT and Wi-Fi shared both antennas and 2.4GHz band which had negative impact on connection speeds.

That's something that would happen even if no BT devices were present.

Mind you- I'm not saying that is a solution- but it's something worth checking as it looks quite similar and is easy to test.
If it's not that we shall continue ;)

I have done some testing, and so far it is inconclusive as I can't now reproduce the issue!

These are my speed tests Bluetooth ON/OFF (down/up ping)

    BT off 32/9 16
    BT on 25/9 17
    BT on 24/8 16
    BT on 23/9 15
    BT on 24/9 16
    BT on 37/8 17
    BT on 36/9 17
    BT on 36/9 16
    BT on 36/9 15
    BT on 34/9 16
    BT on 36/9 16
    reboot
    BT on 32/9 17
    BT on 36/9 18
    BT off 36/9 15
    BT off 34/9 16

Unfortunately the first thing I did was turn bluetooth off and then start testing, so I don't know if the wireless issue had sporadically resolved itself before I conducted the tests, or if turning BT off somehow solved the issue.

I say this because when turning it on it makes no difference now.

Perhaps it needs to build up over a few hours, I'll try the testing again later after leaving bluetooth on for some time... I hate not having an answer!
