I am currently using a WRT54G linksys router and am buying an Inspiron 1520. My 3 network card choices are Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini-Card, IntelĀ® 3945 802.11a/g Mini-card, and Dell Wireless 1505 Wireless-N Mini-card. My house has very thick walls and sometimes my old laptop can't get the connection downstairs. I read that the N card increases the range a lot even without a N router. Should I get that then? And if not, which G card is better?

All of those cards suck to be honest. I'm surprised Dell isn't giving you the option of the Intel 4965AGN.

The 3495ABG is crap for range. The others are better but they use broadcom chipsets so the drivers are usually crap with the drivers not supporting WPA2-AES, it's been a while and no new version is out yet.

I'd go with the 1505N if you have no other choice.

Really? Is it possible to buy a different network card and put it in when I get the laptop? And would it be hard?

Yes in some cases you can, but if Dell isn't offering the 4965AGN I wonder if it doesn't work with that unit. That being said as one who had a DELL E1505 with the 3945ABG I can attest to the sucky range...it really did bite the big one compared to my T60.
