I recently replaced my Intel 3945 w/ a Gigabyte GN-W101GT (Atheros AR5005GS) wifi card. Before I did the switch, my Intel would get speeds around 17Mbps and hold steady (although if you took it 10 feet away from the router, it would decrease dramatically). After I switched the cards, my Gigabyte gets MUCH better range but gets 10Mbps and never any higher. When I test the connection speeds, I get to 10Mbps very quickly, then all of a sudden it will just hold there (as if it could reach higher speeds, but it's capped somehow). Tested a wired connection from the router to the laptop and will hit 17Mbps no problem. Any reason why all of a sudden I have a speed cap on my wifi card?

if it is an internal card, have you checked that the Ariel or Ariel's are connected propely.

    regards.

    What router are you using?

Do you have any unsupported proprietary technologies activated on the router or the wifi card (Super G as an example on the card)?

EDIT: I'm getting 12 mbps throughput average with my Atheros AR5006EGS and WAP54G.

Interesting question...how can i tell if I have them activated on the card? The Atheros supports Super G but I don't belive my router does (Linksys WRT54GL). This can cause problems?

Atheros Client Utility > Profile Management tab > Modify... > Advanced tab

Uncheck both Super G and eXtended Range boxes.

hhmmmm....well I didn't originally have Atheros Client Utility installed (just installed the drivers). So I downloaded it and set it up. It's disabled and there's no option for me to turn it on. Can't select anything as all the options are greyed out (This version says it only supports W400 and W500). Any ideas where to get the right utility for my card? Got it from here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...m=ob-40647-1&prodTypeId=0&prodSeriesId=376810

Well still no luck...same thing happens with that version as well. I have installed the Atheros Drivers and the Gigabyte driver which doesn't change a thing. Is that another wifi utility that can disable Super G mode?

Are you uninstalling the old driver through Add/Remove Programs before installing the new one?

Deleted all past utilities and drivers. There are no drivers in the link that you provided, so I had to get the original ones from Gigabyte. Still having the same problem...I love the fact that Atheros nor Gigabyte has a customer support line! Here's a screenshot of what I'm looking at.

Edit:And why in the hell is there no Gigabyte Utility Software installed??? Went through install again and noticed the name, but there is no software installed when the installation is finished. DAMN VISTA!!!!

What do you mean there's no drivers in the link I provided? Those are the OEM Atheros drivers. By the looks, you're using Vista. Download and unzip the link I provided. Uninstall the Gigabyte software. And run setup from the unzipped file.

I uninstalled and selected the unzipped folder to install the new drivers and this screen keeps popping up (it is Vi$ta):

Try doing an Update Driver through Device Manager. Point it to the unzipped directory. It looks like everything is there for it to install properly.

Yea, unfortunately I've already tried that and get the same message as before. I can see the .inf and .sys files in there so I have no clue as to why this is not working!?!?! It must be Vista in all of its fine glory. I had to copy and paste some things to get the Gigabyte Client Utility to even open (as it's made for previous OSes and doesn't fully support Vista! Lol!!!)and of course I get an error message: Unable to unload driver. Any1 wanna trade a copy of XP for Vista???

Btw, thanks for the help WackyT, you are a trooper to stick with me this far!!!
