Suddenly having a problem connecting to the internet wirelessly, in my apartment, using my Linksys router.
I have no clue whats wrong; what I do know is that I am connected to my wireless network, my signal strength is “excellent” but I get no connection to the internet.

I tried diagnosing the problem and Vista came back with “Cannot communicate with DNS server”.
Then suddenly it will connect to the internet, but ill get a connection that is so slow that it literally takes up to five minutes to bring up a page.
    Any suggestions?

If you can connect to your router wirelessly, and you can access other computers on your network, then there are a couple of possible fixes:

    1. Unplug your modem and router for at least 30 seconds. Plug them back in, and see if you can connect.

    2. Check your DNS settings on the router, along with any ISP data that might be in there. Fix what isn't right.

    3. You can always call your ISP. There might be a problem on their end.

Try flushing your dns. click start>run> type cmd and press enter. The command window will open and on the command line type in "ipconfig /flushdns" without the quotes and press enter.

This router has a known problem with the DNS issue, I had this router and took it back. Linksys knows about the problem but they dont have a fix in fact they recomend you downgrade to older firmware version 8 (most come with vers 11 with this DNS issue) What you mentioned is exactly what I had it would connect and then drop then a min later it would connect again then drop again. However some people posted that if you downgrade to ver 8 that you could possibly compromise your DNS something ver 11 was suppose to address but it fixed one prob and created another.

    read about it here
