Ok well I have a laptop on my wireless network and I cant print from it to my printer which is attached to a desktop.

I can detect my desktop, I just cant access it and I cant figure out why, even after disabling firewalls, security, and reading multiple online guides.

But anyways thats a whole different story, but maybe not, because wont the file have to go through my desktop into the printer?

    Perhaps disabling simple file sharing.

Are you sharing the printer? On the desktop, go to CP > Printers & Faxes > right-click printer > Sharing.

Then on the laptop, CP > Printers & Faxes > Add a printer > Network Printer > follow the prompts.

You may need to install additional drivers for the printer, on either the laptop or the desktop, if your laptop and desktop need different drivers, and if when you set up the printer on the desktop, you didn't install drivers that your desktop doesn't need "just in case". The setup will tell you if that's the case though.

If you need to just transfer files, you can enable file sharing and put stuff in a shared folder. You'll be able to access the shared file from the other folder as well.

What problem are you encountering that's preventing you from sharing the printer attached to the desktop?

You turn off simple file sharing in Folder Options. It is the last one on the view tab.
