Hi guys. I'm running a wireless network in my house between 2 PC, one Vista Basic, one Vista Home Premium. When I first enabled file and printer sharing on both of them they would come up just fine in the Network devides window and comunicate just fine. 2 days ago they dissapeared. Cannot see either one of them in the network devices window, or network map one. However, both computers are connected to the router and the internet just fine. The network discorery in turned on, its set as private, and all the sharing is enabled. Link Layers are also enabled on both PCs. I tied to the ping "pc name" command and got nothing. Any ideas for further troubleshooting??? Also all computers are in the default Vista workgroup named "Workgroup"

Do you have a software firewall? That caused nearly identical problems on the XP network set up at my house a few days ago. The firewall should have settings that allow file and printer sharing, but by default they're likely turned off. And if the firewall is blocking it, like you said, you won't be able to see the computer with the offending firewall from the other computers.

I checked the vista firewall settings and they should allow network sharing. I even disabled both firewalls and still no luck. Now here's the trippy thing. When i changed the workgroup of the network to another name and restarted, both PC popped up like they're supposed to. Ping them both and they were just fine, however, after they woke up from sleep mode, poof they disappeared again. Now they wont ping each other either, although they're connected to the wireless router and the internet just fine. Any ideas guys???
