When I watch a television show on Fox.com, the video freezes for bout half a second every 10 seconds. It makes the video unwatchable. I can't get my Terminator fix.

Is there anything I can do to improve the video feed? I already shut down my firewall and antivirus. I tried a different browser as well.

Is your laptop on high performance power mode (assuming it's Windows)?

    DWA-142 USB adapter , DIR-655

I also have another computer hard wired to the router that won't play the video either. There is a laptop in our home (Dell...that I can not use) that is able to play the video).

It is Windows. The adapter is attached to a desktop.

    Cable connection.

Your connection might be to slow to keep up with the stream.

Can you go to www.speedtest.net and post your speed?

I don't think that's the problem, since another Dell on his network can play the video.

What operating system are on the computers? Please list every computer, and identify the computer that plays the videos without any problems.

Does this only happen on fox.com?

Have you checked your router settings?

I can't watch video on any site on the two desktops.

What settings on my router should I fool with?

How are those speed tests? I know they are not great. I am stuck with a USB adapter because I can't use a PCI (or whatever it is called..the standard one) on my computer because I can't build on it. Should I be able to watch video at those speeds?

Your speedtests are more than sufficient to stream videos.

Can you give me the exact link of the video you are watching? It might just be the video player that is being used.

How does Youtube clips play on the two computers?

Do you have AV scanning incoming connections? It seams most all mfg have gone to a all in 1 package, including a scanner for incoming www. Since this is a XP machine try using CableNut to optimize your connection. It kind of sounds like a buffer is set to low. When you download cablenut get the aux pack for more presets. I also see this on some sites where they do not have enough bandwidth to supply all of the connections.

Youtube plays fine on all computers.

I turn off the AV when watching video and it doesn't do anything.

I found CableNut, but not the auxilliary pack.

Is there any chance of CableNut f*cking up my internet connection? It can be a pain in arse when that happens.

I know CableNut changes the registry. Does Window's system restore save the registry settings? In case CN doesn't work, I want to be able to undo any changes.

Cablenut is safe, it does offer a undo if you does not work. In every case I have used it, it has helped. It is not Vista compatiable but works on XP. Normal what it does when you select you ISP speed and type it increase values that boost speed. It also shows you what settings were changed.

The aux pack may be included with it now.

I did download Cablenut and my connection does seem faster, but I the video is still the same.

However, I think I might have found the problem, but no solution.

I read something in the FAQ for the video player about CPU usage. It stated that if CPU usage was over 75%, it could cause a problem with video playback. I looked in Windows Task Manager (CTR-ALT-DEL) under "Performance" and my CPU usage is at 100%. When I looked under "Processes", over 95% was for iexplore.exe (my browser I assume). When I am not watching video, iexplore usage is less than 5%.

I would say that I have too much stuff running, but it is the browser that is taking up all the usage.

If someone wants to be really helpful, it would be great to find out what the CPU usage is on your computer (specifically, the usage of the browser under Processes ) CTR-ALT-DEL) when playing the video and if it is choppy.

I cannot view it because its only available for the US but looking at the source code, the player it uses is probably the issue.
