    Hey everyone!

    I have a weird problem.

My brother has got his new PC, and he is very happy. But we have a problem. We can't get it online. I thought it was the crappy and old Netgear USB adapter that caused the problem but no. I ordered a new PCI-E adapter, and the problem was the same. It can't connect to our router. He is running Windows Vista, but I tried to upgrade to Windows 7, but no luck. In the very start, I managed to get it online with the old netgear, but it had some lagspikes, but now I can't get it online with the old card either! The error message says something like "Can't connect to the wireless network", and it can't find a solution itself. It suggest to move closer, but we have a signal with 4 bars, so I don't think it's necessary.

All the 3 other computers in the house works like a charm, and connects to the network with no problems.

I have upgraded the firmware on the router, and the wireless card etc. etc.

I think it has something to do with the router though. There must be a setting somewhere that's wrong.

    I hope you can help.

    Kind Regards Peter

Check to make sure your not MAC filtering by the router. My guess it's a FW issue on the NB. Can you connect via Wire....

May want to delete the location, reboot then see if it finds your Network. You are Broadcasting the Routers AP SSID ? Most of the newer OS require this for it work.

    Thanks for the answer Blue.

However, I have tried all the firmware that's out for this router, and I have also experienced with third party FW.

As I said, the 3 other of my computers can connect to the router with full speed just fine. And yes, mac-filtering is turned off :)! Nothing seem to solve this problem. My network cards can see my neighbours routers, but not my own! It's a bit strange o_O! I have also tried to format the whole system - No luck.

    Any other suggestions?

    Kind Regards Peter

Is you router broadcasting the SSID? You will need to login to the router and access the Wireless setup options. Updated FW does nothing on turning on ssid if it was turned off.

I know very little about Vista. But look at your network services and turn off everything but then bare min, TCP/IP and 1-2 other must be on. All other are optional/addons. Years back I found that their was 1 service that killed every thing on my old NB. Sorry it's been so long to give you specifics but maybe this will nudge you in the right direction.

What type of security is being used on the router? wep, wpa(2), none.

Have you tried it with the personal FW off.

Yes, it has always been broadcasting the SSID. (My other computers can see the router just fine).

I really doubt it's the services, because I have formatted it several times, and I have also tried to use Windows 7, but it doesen't solve my problem!

I have never experienced a problem like this. It's really strange!
