OK, first i have a HP dv7-1267cl laptop with amd turon X2 @ 2.20 ghz and 4 gig memory it came with Win home premium and i just did a fresh R&R with Vista Ultimate so needless to say i have reformatted everything. well everything seems to be going good i am fully updated via microsoft update and HP except for 2 things that just will not accept their drivers one of the is called unknown device and the other is network controller which is my broadcom wireless card I have tried to go through microsoft update i have DL'ed the driver from HP and tried installing it from my desktop and yes, I unistalled the devices in device mgr beforehand i cant tell you how many times i have Restarted the PCand everytime i get the messages about installing those drivers and then subsequently get the message that they failed so i have no wireless but do have hard line.... Did you install all of the required notebook drivers from HP?

Do you have the restore disk available? If so, I would do a restore and put the original OS back on the computer, then check the device manager and see exactly what networking devices you have installed.

kinda the long way around but after searching all night on google and countless websites i think im gonna have to do that... I spoke to HP support and they informed me that, get this, ultimate is a totally different OS than home premium and they actually void my warranty while i have another OS other than the one it was shipped with on my pc and would not help. Then they told me that the drivers that my pc was shipped with and are available on their website for my particular model was not compatible with ultimate however upon reading the driver DL page i see that it was compatible with every version of vista x86 & x64 so they have reached an all time level of uselessness.

Just chalk this up to a lesson learned - always check the device manager and write down every device and driver, then go out and download the drivers and required software prior to removing your existing operating system. You can also do an install in a virtual machine - test everything out before actually installing anything.
