I used to be able to connect to my wireless router. I can't connect any more.

Could someone please help me get it connected?

    Wireless Network connection 10
    says it's connected.
IBM High Rate Wireless LAN MiniPCI Combo Card #2
    Driver Actiontec 2.0.9.0 9/23/2002
When I use Wireless Zero Configuration it shows it's connected with WEP 128 bit.
The Status shows the current channel 11 is correct.
The Status shows Link Quality Excellent 100%
The Status shows Signal Strength Excellent 93%
    Power save mode is disabled
    Wireless router = Compaq Connection Point CP-2W Version 2.09 Jan 21, 2003
XP Pro sp2 with all updates.
    Thinkpad A31p

Connecting through the cable is fine.

When I ping the internet with an IP address I get:
    Request timed out.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you,

    Docfxit

unless i missed something...resetting usually involves pushing a small reset pin located on the back of your router...no ethernet cables attached...just the power supply...check your mfgs. website on the procedure for resetting...example...for a linksys router...hold reset button in for "they say one minute"...i've always found 30 seconds to be more than enough...this resets the router back to factory defaults...you'll have to reconfigure the router...i.e. set-up page...wireless ssid and encryption key...complete configure just as though it was new...btw...usually a ball point pen is good for holding the reset button in....

Access your router using ethernet, since wireless deosn't work. When in the router enable DHCP, and see if it works.

The reset will set the router back to its factory defaults, so he will lose whatever userid and password he created, and he will have to set it up to make it work with his network.

To turn off the router won't do that, but it will re-initial the whole connection process, including assigning IP addresses and so on. You could also instead do release, renew, and many other things but it is easy and faster just to turn off the router.

I turned on DHCP on the router, Rebooted the router.
I changed the Wireless connection to Obtain an IP address.
    I did a /release
    I did a /renew
I'm getting limited or no connectivity.

in a command window I ran:
    route /f
To rebuild the routing table. Then I re-booted the PC.

    Still can't connect.

    Thank you,

When you get limited or no connectivity means that your laptop is configured for DHCP service of an IP, Gateway and DNS addresses; but that for whatever reason your client DHCP request has failed.

A right-click on your network icon in the notification tray, Status, Support, Details will show that XP has assigned APIA addresses; default addresses in the 169.x.x.x range.

If you wireless adapter is from Intel, upgrade your drivers.

For XP with SP 2, repair your Winsock service stacks:

    Start button, Run, CMD

    netsh winsock reset

Wait for the instruction to restart your computer. Restart your computer.

    Test.

If after the reboot your problem remains, run a network diagnostic:

    Start, Run, netsh diag gui

...and...that takes every bit of 5 minutes... Helpful Tip...i keep all of my network settings...and a few other notepad files on an old 256mb usb stick...have them in an encrypted .rar folder so no one can just take a look see...takes me about 5 minutes to copy and paste the info back into the router config pages....

I don't know if it will fix it, but sometimes Network Magic can repair a connection. But then it uses it's own utilities to connect//repair etc. It is sometimes hard to remove all traces of it to. You can use the trial version and see if it helps-- usually for newbies..

Windows also can diagnose and repair, just right click on the network icon on the task bar and selct diagnose and repair, this works once over 100 times :D
