Today I received my DLINK DIR-655 Extreme Wireless N router but my laptop only connects to wireless G (54 mbps) I got the G50VT-X6 laptop and it has a Intel Wifi 5100 AGN module built in it which suppose to go up to 300mbps. Even if it's just "wireless N draft" I should at least get 100mbps right??? Right now, I have the router set to N G and B. But when I set it to only N mode, the laptop will say "this network is not supported". Help please!!!!

N only, and mixed mode with WPA2 work great for me. Dir-655 with an Intel 5300. :)
"To acheive 300Mbps, you need to have the channel width set to 20/40 and use WPA2/AES encryption." And take a look at your adapter settings also-they need to match your router settings or you will get that message
Check out the DIR-655 section at the D-Link forums

Thx the speed increased to 150Mbps but I still can't get 300Mbps. Btw, does wireless N drain more battery life?

Fool around with the settings cuz I get 300Mbps-but I'm only like 15 feet from my router usually  - and not sure, cuz when I'm at home(DIR-655),the lappy is usually plugged in

Would the wifi chip die faster since it's wireless n then?

haven't had a wireless chip die, have fried Nvidia graphics chips, but never a wi-fi card, either one-if they fry, they're defective. Not supposed to quit on ya ;)

yup-a couple of screws to take the back panel off the lappy and you'll see the card-depending on your laptop-just check the manufacturers site for your manual. In fact the lappy in my signature originally came with the Intel 4965 N card and I upgraded to the 5300. :D
