I have an AMD laptop (Dell) that is not using Intel chipset. It is using Dell 1501 Half Mini PCIe card. When I changed it to Intel 6200, the driver installed fine, the Intel ProSet software installed fine.

I can see the network, and I can enter the password (WAP-PSK) but I just can't have connection. Same thing happen even I disable the security.

Please help... can AMD Laptop use Intel 6200 wireless card?

    Thanks

Yes- AMD laptops can use Intel Wi-Fi cards.
Make sure that MAC filtering is not enabled on the router.
You may have configured it for the old card and now the new MAC address doesn't match.

The MAC filtering is not turned on at all.

If I pull the card and install on another (Intel Based) laptop, it works fine.

Any other setting I need to do in the AMD laptop?

Wild guess -- there's something in the firmware that doesn't let you use the card with non-Intel computers.

I have an Intel 4965ag card with disabled N in my T61. The disabled N appears to be a firmware limitation as it can see the N network on my dual-band router, but can't connect to it.

I seem to recall Intel marketing their wifi cards as being for Intel-based computers only. I don't know if they still do (or if they ever did) -- anybody else recall this, or did I just imagine it?

    From Intel web site

Intel® WiFi and WiMAX adapters do not require firmware upgrades. All necessary enhancements are applied when drivers are updated.

So I guess that I just need to find a driver version that will work with AMD chipset?

I ran into strange issues getting some 5x and 6x cards working in non-intel desktops, but these chipsets are never seen in laptops.

Might have problems with older intel chipsets too, but I have a 5300 in a 925x board which came out well before the centrino2 mobile stuff. Also happy in any desktop equivalent of the laptop chipsets.

I think some of the low end 945 mobile chipsets are specifically not supported as noted in intel docs, but thats pretty old too.

You should be fine in most laptops, several people have reported working cards in the new fusion netbooks for example. Keep in mind some OEMs also do annoying crap like bios whitelists, but there are ways around that too.
