    I have a sony vaio AR series laptop which has wireless LAN, quite a lot lately ive been on my laptop browsing the internet then all of a sudden the connection has dropped off. I then check the indicator on my task bar and it still has the live global symbol on it that shows i`m still connected to the net but i`m not if you know what i mean.

    I have just been browsing the net and i was looking at my task bar and my wireless LAN symbol had a red cross on it which normally shows your not connected to the net but i was and was browsing the internet no problem, any ideas whats going on here as i seem to drop the internet connection quite a lot. Its 2 meg broadband.

    I`m using windows vista ultimate
    I`m using a D-Link DIR-635 router
    My Laptop is a Vaio VGN-AR51SU

    the red x wound be caused by not have ipv6

    you still ip4v connective so that why still work

    you can go network connect propters uncheck ipv6 support it will get rid of the x

    Some things to try.

    * Update to the latest drivers for the WLAN Adapter Card from the Manufacturer's web site

    * Change the Wireless Channel Number on the Router to something else

    * Update the Router's firmware

    How strong is the Wireless signal when connected to the Router?...How far are you from it? Are you downloading any torrents etc. when the connection drops?
