OK heres the deal im moving to the middle of nowhere in a few weeks and they dont offer cable or dsl at my address and i refuse to be stuck with dial up i have done some research and my only options are an alltell wireless card or hughes net both have a 5gb limit and i know that is gonna suck but i think im going to go with alltel wireless internet its a lot cheaper but i want to set up a wireless network in my house so i can run all my pc's once without having to pull my card out of one pc and put it in another one so my question is can i hook a wireless internet usb or pci card to a wireless router and connect to it with several computers i know how to do this with a dsl or cable modem but i have never heard of neone doing it with a internet card is it possible any help would be great on this

    Yes, you can do it

There are two options--the first is to get yourselve a 3G/UMTS Broadband router

Ask your alltel rep for the model that works best with their network--I know linksys makes one. What you do is plug your wireless card into the router instead of your computer and then the router handles the dial up and connection for all computers on your network. It actually works pretty well in the one case I set one up for someone.

The other solution is cheaper, but less elegant. You install the card in one computer that will always be on and always connected to your network, then set up INTERNET CONNECTION SHARING on that one interface. Then, when a computer on your network wants to connect to the internet, it does so through that computer. The other computers contact the main computer through the lan, then the main computer dials up the wireless broadband, then basically acts as a router, routing traffic from the lan through the wireless broadband card.

This also works pretty well, even though most people never use ICS (i've actually used this in the old days with old copper wire dial up networking and it even worked there for simple websurfing)
