I have an Inspiron 1420 and needed the gigabit speeds for streaming, so I purchased an express card from ebay. It is the Marvell Yukon 88e8053...whatever that is. I used the latest driver for the card and I'm only getting 100Mbps.

I tried going into the properties for the card > Advanced > Speed and Duplex> and changed from Auto Negotiation to 1000Mbps then my connection gets lost. If I change it back it works correctly.

It is not the cable or the network, if I plug the same cable into my desktop it reads 1000Mpbs. Anyone have any ideas?

This is the link to what I bought: Gigabit Express Card

You other network devices must all be gigabit, did you check that?

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I get gigabit speeds w/ everything else, just not on the laptop. It doesn't have built in gigabit which is why I got the express card, but it's still not getting greater than 100. If I use the same cable and hardware that I connect my desktop to it's only showing 100, switch the cable back over to the desktop and it's at 1000. Not sure why :(

I guess the next thing you can try is to manually set the corresponding port to 1000M speed on the network device your laptop is connecting to, whether it's a router or switch.

If your device does not allow you to do that or you lost the connection after that, then how about return and get another card?

Yeah I guess I'll try emailing the company to find out about it. I know I searched on Google before here and some other people posted the problem with various other hardware but they seem to have got it working with methods I already tried or it went unanswered.

The latest drivers on Marvell's website is 11.45.1.3, same number as yours but dated 9/14/11. Weird. But yeah, that's the version I'm using. I appreciate the help trying to get it figured out
