I want a dlink 855 but right now its kinda expensive, so im waiting. But, my friend told me I would need an n card to achieve the potential of the n router. I have an AMD Turion x2 processor, what card should I get?

. can you share the whole comp specs (model, ..)?
. what are you querying about, an external or an internal card?

    cheers ...

yeah sure my laptop is a toshiba satellite A215-S4807 running an AMD turion x2 processor with a 32 bit operating system. Also, my wireless card is an Atheros AR5007EG. I want an internal one preferrably but external is ok.

Any Atheros 5008 adapter will work with the D-Link draft "N" routers.

I would wait a bit longer on the internal cards since N standard is still not being finalised. At this moment it is slated for November 2009. For external, you are probably stuck with USB stick, since there is currently no pcmcia-express card that would support N connections ( the last time I search)

I have no preference regarding to any brands the USB WLan N sticks are.

    cheers ...

I disagree with ghn - I believe it's perfectly fine to buy an internal "N" card right now. If you want one now, buy one. I bought mine a few months ago and haven't had any problems, or worries, with draft "N". Also, there are plenty of ExpressCard "N" cards available. D-Link makes an entire "N" line of products, as does Linksys and other manufacturers. Before I swapped out my internal card, I had one of the Xtreme "N" D-Link ExpressCard products, and it worked great.

thanks for the input. I have another question. Should I buy it when I get the router, or should i buy it right now?

so if i want to buy a card that will work for all n routers, is that possible? For example, if i switch my router from d link to linksys, is it still ok to use the xpress n card from d link or do i need another one?

It will work, but you might not get 300Mbps. Take a few hours and review the draft N threads on this forum, as there are many posts about what works with what.

I would get an intel 4965AGN based card. I have one and it connect very reliably at 300Mbps with the dir-855. I also have the newer intel wifi link 5100, it only connects at 150Mbps, no matter what.
