I have always been using a router forever; however, it doesn't work now. Can they sense it being a router and cut me off?

Most university's resnets have it so you cannot use a router.

    If it doesn't work now:

    1. their resnets cut it off
    2. the router died and is old
    3. the modem is old and died

Well, it has worked the previous two years... I'm mad about this. I might have to do a pass through using my server acting as a dhcp then. Any suggestion on how to get around this resnet problem?

Yes, it is possible to detect a router. I have no idea if that's why your connection died though.

Well, it doesnt make any sense...

Well, I'm going to try to work on it tonight. Thanks y'all.

If anybody knows how to get around this, feel free to post because I have two server boxes that need to be up and running!

Just talk to your IT dept. It might be something else. Don't tell them that you have a router, just say that your connection died. If they figured out that you were using a router all this time, it won't matter anyway.

Why would having a router be restricted?

I don't know, but that seems to be the case with a lot of universities. Maybe they don't want the students to use a lot of bandwidth and clog the university network. It could be a lot of things.

Haha! ;) I've been running a 20 person cs1.6 server for the past two years lol! That is one of the reasons I need my router!

At the university I go to we have quotas on wireless internet and resnet. So I guess that can be one of the reasons. We have to authenticate using our username and password each time we start a wireless session.

Another possible reason could be if you set a wireless router, some stranger could easily leech wireless off of the university.

True true. At the bottom of this http://tinyurl.com/3ywp5c it clearly says what I'm doing is wrong... I just don't understand why they would pick up on it now, instead of two years ago when I was a freshman. Now, I wish I could get some Verizon Fios to my dorm room, and everything would be settled.

So I did a full hardware reset on my di-604 router, and now it works. I'll have to try out my dgl-4300 later. I'll keep you updated.
