    Hello Everyone,

I recieved an HP pre-configured DV7-7012nr Laptop this week. Overall, Im very pleased with the laptop. However, there is 1 item that's a major issue - the Wireless Card. According to Device Manager, it's a Broadcom 4313GN 802.11 internal wireless (1 X 1) card. So far, I can only get speeds of 2-4MB via speedtest.net, with a very weak & spotty connection - only 2 bars on the taskbar.... For comparison, my 1 year old Laptop wireless, & Desktop averages about 20MB with a solid connection.

HP asked me to move the laptop closer to the router, which I tried. It improved the speeds to 6-8MB range... but that's not a solution, as I need the laptop elsewhere in the house.

Can anyone recommend ideas to improve speed & signal strength ? Should I replace the Wireless card for another model ? I'm looking at the Intel 6235 or 6300 cards. Would a 2 X 2 or 3 X 3 card likely resolve this ? Also, if I replace the current Broadcom card, would I lose features like Bluetooth and Wi-Di ? Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks in advance !

It can be replaced although you must use a HP dedicated card due to whitelisting.
As long as you buy a replacement card with Bluetooth- like Intel 6230/6235 you can keep it.
If you choose a card without it like Intel 6300- you lose it.

As for Wi-Di- I thought it was Intel technology that worked only worth Intel cards so I don't think you have it now, but I might be mistaken.

Anyway- a good 2x2 card like Intel 62xx would improve your wireless experience although it also depends on your router.

" I can only get speeds of 2-4MB via speedtest.net"
well that depends on your internet connection. if the problem is the internet connection you can even get an 802.11ac 1.5gbps card that you still have those 2-4MB speeds.
