Does anyone know if Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG can be used to set up a wireless access point? I need to get my Nintendo Wii online, and would like to not have to buy a wireless router just for that, and the Wii won't accept ad-hoc mode. I can't find anything about the card supports software access point or not, and I would appreciate any help I can get.

The chipset is 945PM/GM, and the wireless card is 3945ABG.

    Thanks in advance.

You can setup a bridge connection with the wireless. But your PC would have to be on for this to work. Look under Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) for how to setup.

I still have the same problem. The wii won't connect to the ad-hoc network I have made.

You should not have an Adhoc setup.

Keep an eye on tigerdirect, they occasionally have have cheap referb routers for like... $20. Not super good but will do the trick for you.

Yeah, you can buy one khanhfat. But I also read they are discontinued now, and I haven't seen anywhere I can buy one.

Also I live in Norway, so the cheapest wireless acces point I can find is around $50-$60. I am only going to use it to download a few games to the Virtual Console, so I was hoping i wouldn't have to use a lot of money on it.

Then how will the Wii find the computer?

If you dont need your computer while your doing it download a copy of Ubuntu's Live CD from Ubuntu.com and reboot with that in. A OS will pop up on your computer. Have your Ethernet cable plugged in and look in the upper right for a network icon. Right click on that icon and select "Create Wireless Network" or something similar and you will be able to run access point from there and it should link you to your internet.
    Edit: Whops its left click.

Don't get a the official Nintendo Wi-Fi USB stick. There's Vista compatibility issues and the device gets hot, sometimes dropping the connection.

Well I only need it to download a few games, so I don't need it while doing that. But when I tried doing what you said, it just said

"Attempting to join the wireless network '(null)'", I lost my wired internet connection, and it seemed all network related things hanged. I tried a few times, and the same happened, except sometimes I was able to get my wired connection back without rebooting, sometimes not. After it had given up trying to create a wireless network.

The wireless card uses the driver ipw3945 it seems, if that matters.
