Or do I need to keep the same Broadcom card that came with it.

I had an Intel centrino laptop that had great wi-fi connectivity but the famous annoying high pitch noise. I swapped the Intel laptop for an AMD based laptop with a Broadcom card and the wi-fi is lousy.

Can I use an IntelĀ® Next-Gen Wireless-N or IntelĀ® PRO/Wireless ABG mini pci card in place of the Broadcom that came with it?

    Thanks

I do not think that mixed Intel Wireless with AMD has ever been a great idea. I would suggest Broadcom, or my favorite for AMD; Atheros. Atheros cards have been known to always be great cards, with connectivity.

I've heard a lot of good things about Atheros. I've done everything the laptop manufacturer (HP) has asked me to do to solve my problem. The next step is to call the case manager to request another card.

How do I ask for an Atheros card instead of the Broadcom card that came with it?

The Broadcom card is supposed to be ABGN wi-fi. What do I say to get an Atheros ABGN card?

Yup, there is no AMD laptops with Intel Wireless Card till now, AMD based laptops mainly use Broadcom and Atheros Wireless card.
