I recently got FIOS and they provided me with a wireless router for my network. I had a Lynksis router and was wondering if there was some way I could use it to boost the signal in my basement.

If either router can serve as a repeater, then yes you can use it to "boost" your signal. If not, then the interference could make your wireless experience worse.

Thanks for your help. How would I find out if it can work as a repeater?

Read the user manual to see if it says anything about using the router as a repeater; also, check on the manufacturer's support webpage.

you can do a google search on the router's model number, or you can go into the router settings.

The linksys may be supported by dd-wrt firmware. If so it has a repeater option if the std pkg is supported and not the mini version.

I think it was called WDS (Wireless distribution system) on Linksys routers.

We are running 3 extra wireless routers off of our Actiontec (Verizon supplied for the FIOS). All of ours are wired though, and set with DHCP off. We also run different channels on each, just incase.

We have DD-WRT on two of the routers.

How weak is the signal at the desired connect point or how much further do you want to go?
