Acer 5003 WMLi on a (WPA) enabled wireless router. I have paid for and installed BitDefender 9 Internet Security. Have real time protection against virus and spyware and use the BitDef firewall in Stealth mode. I stay ontop of Windows upates (automatic update disabled though). I constantly delete cookies and temp files. I try to stay away from "evil sites". Anything else to keep the bad guys out? The reason I did all of this and am still concerned is I got a virus in the MBR while using Norton. Had to format and reinstall. I feel secure now but is there anything else that can be done to protect?

    Enable your Mac filtering
    Disable your SSID broadcast

This is all covered in my guide at the top of this forum (also a link in my sig)

Check that, and it will also have other security tips too

No problem, mac filtering and disabling SSID broadcast are 2 major ways to keep your network safe. I wouldnt have to worry to much now at all :)

    You're extremely paranoid, expy.

The more you are concerned with protection, the more you're going to get attacked. Murphy's law.

Yep, dr I agree. For years I never bothered with a firewall or virus protection. Didnt have 1 single problem that I can remember.

I agree, I never really had problems with attacks in the past without using an Antivirus program. I'd occasionally run an online antivirus program to scan my systems, but came up with nothing.

Only when I delved into reading sketchy emails and downloading sketchy material did I encounter problems.

If you use your computers without looking at "sketchy materials" you should be fine.

    Cheers,
    Mike
