Will a 15GB per month 3G mobile broadband suffice for Guild Wars 2?

According to speedtest.net, my connection is...

Ping 105ms, download speed avg 1.16Mbps, upload speed 1.35Mbps
Ping 137ms, download speed avg 0.77Mbps, upload speed 1.24Mbps
Ping 182ms, download speed avg 2.39Mbps, upload speed 1.02Mbps
Ping 160ms, download speed avg 2.46Mbps, upload speed 0.78Mbps

These tests were ran one after another just before 7pm. Haven't bought Guild Wars 2 yet.

While the speed itself should be OK pings are appalling.
Latency may be a serious problem- 160-180ms would be bad for browsing let alone gaming.

3g data if the most costly and controlled wireless data there is. Even if you are not exceeding your limit the carrier probably will throttle you whenever they feel like it.

In a game like WoW you may get away with it, but from the way GW2 is looking to be designed where you need to dodge enemy attacks on the fly and really be in charge of your character I think the bad latency that would be associated with satellite based internet would make the game hard to play and borderline unplayable.

Probably could handle casual low level stuff but high level or PVP would be unacceptable.

Satellite internet service is much less dependable than the 3g cell service giantclam is asking about. I was able to watch Hulu and Netflix with my 3g modem by Verizon until they decided to use the same towers and equipment for there newer 4g and of course they added the Iphone so the service became unusable. So the signal giantclam has, may be good enough to play the game at some level. But because of over selling of the 3g modem and 3g cell phone contracts there will be times of the day where this will not work. Eventually this may happen all of the time. If giantclam needs it more for mobile than a 3g modem or hotspot is the better choice. I used a wireless 3g modem from 2006 to the beginning of 2011. I have the unlimited contract and still have it in my name so my brother can use it.

    You

Totally overlooked everything we said. Its not about the speed/bandwidth AKA streaming videos. Its about the latency.

Vicious is right, regardless of 3G or satellite, if the latency to the ISP is 180ms, the ping to the GW2 servers will in all probability be horrible compared to that. 250ms in game was playable in the first GW as long as you didn't play competitive PvP or needed to interrupt skills.

Prior to Verizon putting the screws to there service I was getting between 70ms to 125ms. After they throttled the service it was never lower than 200ms and much higher sometimes. The signal that had been between 1.8 and 2.2 mbps went to .7 mbps and lower. I noticed as the signal went down the latency worsened. The point I would still make is sometimes the game may play properly and sometimes it will not.
