    Hi guys,
I'm having a bit of a dilemma. I recently got vonage and a 6mbps connection.
However, I had my Vonage vtech 8100 router connected from my modem, then the connection went from the vonage router to the d-link 624 router to my 4 computers. However, I was losing download internet speed. I use emule and I could hardly connect through the 2 routers.
I went ahead and I switched the connections.
This time from modem to D-Link and then vonage on the network.
However, vonage keeps on going offline.

    So, I have decided to buy a D-Link DGS-2205.
I was hoping to connect the modem to switch, have my pc's and vonage connected. Using the vonage out port to connect the dlink 624.
My question is, could this be done?
Or would i have to use my modem to vonage, then switch, then d-link624 WiFi router?

My main point is to have a more direct access to the internet w/o using as many routers.

You can not connect a switch directly to the modem. You only have 1 IP address to work with. Must be connected to a router or pc.

Does everything work ok with only the dlink router? no vontage no emule
or just the vontage router no dlink? no emule

emule is required to have ports open for it to work correctly. So if only one pc is running emule forward the port to it. You may also have to limit emule so it does not consume all of the bandwidth. I do not how much vontage requires, But it does require certain ports to open for it to work.

Suggestions: I would connect your 624 to the modem. then put your other router (8100) in a DMZ. Or swap router positions, 8100 then 624. If I recall there is only a couple of ports that need forwarding. Would need to contact Vontage tech support.

Any time you go through a double firewall things get messy. If everything worked with the Vontage router and just need more ports use the switch. With a gigabit switch to get best performance only connect pc that have gigabit nic cards to it, with the only exception being the router. So if you transfer files it will bypass the router and everything will be handled by the switch.

The thing is that the 8100 is not picked up by the router as a connector.
Right now I have the 8100 then the router then the pcs.
I'm thinking of getting the 8100, then attaching everything to the switch.
    Thanks for your quick reply.

explain what you mean "The thing is that the 8100 is not picked up by the router as a connector." ? phone

I'm not a fan of dasie chaining routers always cause problem. The 8100 proably needs to see the broadband connection, non routed. It needs the public IP for it to work. You can connect the switch to it or turnoff DHCP in the router and turn it into a switch.
